- This is a SATA Optical Drive (Superdrive) Enclosure for the Unibody Macbook and Macbook Pro. This enclosure will allow you to make your internal optical drive (combo drive or superdrive) an external drive.
This is a bare enclosure. No drive is installed.
This can be used if you want the ability to have two optical drives, or if you want to use one of our DualDrives to have two internal hard drives and have your optical drive as an external device.
The drive uses USB 2.0. In some machines, it will require two USB ports (one for the connection and one for additional power.) If you install the drive that is currently in your machine, then the drive will not have a bezel once mounted into the external enclosure. This is solely cosmetic, and the drive will function the same with or without a bezel.
Due to current limitations with Apple's DVD Player software, DVD movies may not be playable from an external enclosure unless you use 3rd party dvd player software.
*Note - These enclosures are not compatible with the Mid 2010 and newer model superdrives
