Nahein 7 years ago	Many thanks for these videos! I think my graphic card is dead (nVidia 8800GS...). At the beginning, there were vertical grey bars on the screen, and now my iMac does not start at all, it "clongs" repetivly, and the screen stays black. Your tutorial will help me to replace my card!
Powerbook Medic 7 years ago	@Alessandro - It'd be hard to say without running some tests, but it is probably the video card becoming overheated. It may need to be reflowed or replaced.

Pat 7 years ago	I have an IMac A1225 Core 2 duo with a 320 GB (7200 RPM) Serial ATA hard drive. I can not find a web site that tells me if I can put a higher hard drive in it? My hard drive toasted on me. Any help would be so appreciated.
John T 7 years ago	I removed the stand but the attach bracket snapped back into the computer. How can you withdraw the bracket when the stand is not attached?
Powerbook Medic 8 years ago	@AN DANG - It'd be hard to say without seeing it in the shop, but it may be an issue with the video chipset overheating.

Powerbook Medic 11 years ago	@mohammed - you can replace the power supply, and then if you already aren't doing it, plug the iMac in through a surge protector.

Walt 11 years ago	Superb. Accurate, easy to follow. One tiny bit of advice - in my iMac, the plastic piece on the top of the hard disk, which holds the disk secure via tension in the plastic, had STRONG plastic. To remove it, you have to press against the tension and of course, working with a computer, you're limited in how much pressure you can put on anything. So I removed the screws that hold the plastic tension-holding piece to the top of the hard disk ("top" when looking at the computer), and that impossible plastic piece slid to the right as easy as you please. Putting it back, you fasten it to the hard disk, then push in "in reverse order of disassembly". Because you're now pressing in a different direction, it's easy to overcome the tension this time.
Sam 11 years ago	Wondering about a temp sensor on the logicboard which may cause the screen to turn off and the fans to run on high? Which sensor would this be and can I replace it?
SLE 12 years ago	Any suction cups should work including those small ones you might find for holding towels or stuff on tiles in your kitchen. I bought two for a couple of bucks in the supermarket and they worked just fine.

Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Bobby - it isn't real easy. Once you get the screen out, you should be able to start working you way to the hinge holding the stand in. we unfortunately don't have a guide for this.
Bobby G 12 years ago	My search was to only remove the computer STAND for shipping. Can find out on other imac models. The business card or credit card does not fit in the back of the stand to computer as instructions go on other sites for other imacs. HELP. student waiting to go home from europe

Phill136 12 years ago	Great video!! very helpful. Im wondering; would it be possible to use the iMac as a standalone monitor? If you leave the power supply to power the monitor, and use a DVI to LVDS converter from an external video card for the video signal. Appreciate any feedback.

Peter Fleury 13 years ago	Hello Just watched your vids about the imac 24" core 2 duo. I've got the 20" imac desktop. Are the "guts of both size machines the same? In my case, I just want to remove the hard drive myself and then take it in to have a shop install a new one. Can I open the back as you illustrate and go directly to the hard drive and remove it?
