@des - on this model you should be able to. this isn't the case for all kindle models, however.

@Carl - we unfortunately do not have this. You can check the motherboard product listed to the right and see if that detailed photo helps at all.

In taking the back cover off I "scratch" the logic board by the WiFi chip. Now WiFi does not work. Can I get a better image of this area or a schematic?

Note that, even after removing the battery and the motherboard, the screen still shows a display. For those of us with a frozen display on a Kindle 4, the standard cellphone "fix" of popping and replacing the battery will not work on this model.

Always nice to know what's ahead on a do it yourself venture. Other than reapplying adhesive, I think I can replace a dead battery now.
