AlexO 11 years ago	Well...I get nothing! All I hear is a couple of clicks (very minimal in noise) but that is only when I plug the power cord to the mac..pressing the power on button does not turn anything at all. Logic board diagnostics lights are not on. I tested the back up battery, still gives more than 3.5 v.. Resetting the PMU does not do anything at all...So, now my question is: how do I test the Power Supply unit (pins) I see a lot of testing on different power supply units, but not on a 1000-watts for this Power mac late 2005 model.This model has two molex pins (P1 is 6 pins and P2 is 10 pins)...I bought this used power supply (not from here) and I've only have a couple of days left on the warranty, so I just want to check it and make sure if it was faulty to begin with...or maybe I need a logic board...thanks

Powerbook Medic 11 years ago	@AlexO - not sure what tests you can do without plugging it into the motherboard and powering it on that would help.
AlexO 11 years ago	So, I replaced the PS unit with the same model, etc...How do I make sure that everything is placed as it should (I'm sure I did, but you never know). Any suggestions as to what to look for before I turn it on again? what should I look for? Thanks
Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@Joel - these typically have some indicator lights inside if there are specific issues which you can find references to online. It could be a power supply issue though. Apple Stores may not help much these days on this model considering their age, but an Apple authorized repair shop may be able to.
Joel 12 years ago	I have one of these I acquired from my job, but it doesn't start.... it has the odd horizontal pronged power supply, but didn't come wit ha cord. I bought one off of ebay, but when I hit the power button... nothing. Is there a way for me to troubleshoot it or should I take it to an Apple Store?
Powerbook Medic 12 years ago	@ Apple user - That would likely need to be professionally diagnosed as it could be a number of things. You can try removing ram chips one by one first, and if that doesn't solve the issue you'll likely need a logic board.
Apple user 12 years ago	my g5 wouldn't turn on... it sounds like it is working but the light on the switch would be off or binking sometimes and nothing comes out on the screen... after a few minutes, the fans would start spinning faster and getting louder... Does that has to be a mother board or a powersupply, help me out

Johanas65 13 years ago	The Power Mac G5 (A1177) video guide had flawless playback, was well directed, had precise & clear spoken audio & one of the bestest (McGruber driving car on coast scene) type soundtracks I've ever been forced to sit through. It took almost all of the anxiety out of the task; the board failing gave me. So many thanks to all your staff!

AlexO 14 years ago	@bsm00th Ah! So that is what those extra ground wires for! I thought I was missing some other part(s)! Still looking for a power supply and a Torx screwdriver to get the CPU out! That is really a chore! Great site..LOVE IT! Thanks!
Powerbook Medic 14 years ago	@Bob - it sounds like you are referring to the heat sink covers. These just slide sideways and pop out. it takes a little bit of force but not too much.
Robert B Watson 14 years ago	SN G84321R1QPR. I have an Apple Power Mac. The aluminum tower case. All appears to work well. I have been looking in the case and from your videos I see no processor cover like mine. The cover is divided into 2 areas. Each area says G5 on it which I resume means Dual Processor which I have been led to believe mine is. So how do I remove the "processor case"? Thanks Bob AZ
bsm00th 14 years ago	Very helpful videos for reassembling a G5, thank you. I have the extra ground wire as well but I’m guessing it’s for an additional processor (aftermarket PS). Showing the screws as you removed them was great.

In my case I seem to have two(2)ground wires..I have inherit a G5 just recently and it seems that some parts were taken (HD's) but everything else seems to be there (even 6GB of RAM!!).I'm trying to fix it and get it running as a server/media server...any help on that? Love this site!! very detailed info, for a non-mac user..will be soon though...
Carlos 15 years ago	The video starts once the "G5" casing for the processors has been removed. Please can you let us know how this is removed as mine seems "Fixed" I believe there is a rivet on the top left holding it in place? please advise! Thanks in advance

johnny 15 years ago	some of the videos seem short as far as not fully seeing the actual process of the work thats being done. either it starts late or ends early as the troubleshooting or technical service is being recorded. at least in my opinion i feel it needs to be extended or elaborated to fully understand and grasp the process of the work thats being done.
