This is a replacement / upgrade DUAL LAYER Apple SuperDrive 8X DVD-R Burner For Macbook Pro 17", Powerbook G4 Aluminum or iBook G4. The drive reads DVDs (8x) and CDS, burns CDs (16x or 4x rewrite), and burns DVDs (8x).
This drive can be used to replace your combo drive or to replace or upgrade your superdrive. The drive reads DVDs and CDS, burns CDs, and burns DVDs. This drive is FASTER than your stock drive! It is fully compatible with iTunes and Disc Burner!

A few notes about the different models:

Powerbook G4 Titanium

If your unit originally had a DVD drive only (400mhz and 500mhz models and some models of the 550 and 667mhz) Then you need a mounting bracket and ICB (interconnect board) to use this drive in your unit. Powerbook G3 Pismo and Lombard

This is a brand new Slot Loading superdrive (dvd burner) for the powerbook G3 Pismo and Lombard. This drive installs into your current DVD drive module and will work as a replacement to a dead drive or an upgrade from a working drive. Installation instructions are included, and the process takes less than 5 minutes! The faceplate on this drive is NOT identical to the faceplate on your current drive. This bezel is black in color and does match nicely. However it will not have the contoured look of your current bezel. This item DOES INCLUDE printed installation instructions. The drive is fully compatible with iTunes and Disc Burner after drivers are installed. (Instructions cover driver installation) This drive is bootable in the Pismo G3 and Lombard G3 by simply holding the "c" key at startup. Compatible with OS 9.x.x and OS 10.2 & 10.3 (currently not compatible with 10.1)
