Repair Work FAQ
How does the repair process work?
First, you use the form at the Repair Center link to receive a free estimate on the cost to repair or upgrade your powerbook or iBook. If you decide that you would like to have your unit repaired, you then fill out the work order form at this link. Send the completed form along with your Powerbook to the address on the work order form page. Once we receive your unit, we will email you with the total repair cost as which point you can choose to repair or not to repair. (If you choose not to repair, there is still a flat labor charge.) After you contact us with your decision, we will send you a link to pay for the repair. After payment is received we will ship your laptop back to you.
What is your turnaround time?
Most repairs are repaired within 48 hours from the time they are received received. The typical turn around time is 48 hours hours if all parts are in stock. We keep 98% of parts in stock, but if a part is not in stock, the turn around time will depend of availability of parts. We generally say the repair will be completed and shipped within 7 business days. If there is a chance a part may be out of stock, we will try to notify you ahead of time when you make your initial Repair Request.
Who pays shipping, how much is it, and how do I ship my Powerbook to you?
The customer pays for shipping costs. Shipping is based on how fast you ship your unit to us and how fast you would like it shipped back. Usual costs for 2nd day service are $25.00 one way. We strongly recommend you use a shipping company that offers tracking and insurance as we can not be held responsible for laptops damaged or lost in transit. When sending your unit in, make sure to pack in well using Bubblewrap and peanuts. If you have a Mailboxes Etc. location near you, then we would recommend using their service as they pack laptops very well. If you have the original packaging we recommend shipping your powerbook in it.
How does payment work?
After the repair is complete, we will email you with a link that you use to pay for your repair. The link accepts payment through our online store, and uses secure servers. You can pay via Paypal or Credit Card. We prefer not to have payments via check or money order as repair estimates can sometimes be off, but this form of payment can be arranged if necessary.
Is there a warranty on repair work?
Yes. All parts and service are backed by our standard 1 year parts and service warranty. If you are unsatisfied with the repair, then you can return it to us within 1 year of the date of payment after first contacting
What if I choose not to repair my powerbook?
If you choose not to repair your powerbook, we can either send the unit back to you for the return shipping charges or we can make an offer to purchase the machine if you would prefer to sell the unit.
Do you perform international repairs.
We will perform international repairs as long as Fedex International is used for shipment from us. We will mark the repair as a repaired laptop for customs information, but we take no responsibility for possible import taxes. Also we do not refund shipping for any reason for international repairs.
