Post subject: Macbookpro won't wake up sometimes
PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:06 pm
Sometimes when my macbook goes to sleep mode, I can' get it the display to wake up by any touching of the keyboard, mouse, or trackpad, or display brightness controls (tho by the beeps I often hear I think the finder is awake). I often end up having to cold boot. Any thoughts?

Well, the sleep function works by a magnet in the display setting on a reed switch in the bottom section and when the magnet flips the switch when it gets close enough (closing the display), this triggers the sleep function.

In the macbook pro the reed switch is around the speaker grill. If you can get a small magnet and wave it across the speaker and see if it comes out of sleep. If it doesn't fix it, it is most likely the reed switch if it does fix it, there may be a problem with the magnet in the top case.
