Basic WiFi info for powerbooks seems sketchy and not too organized. So I hope this new topic might collect some gems.
First question- Airport extreme or regular (i.e., 802.11g vs 802.11b)
If using a DSL modem, is there any advantage in 802.11g? or just a waste of money? Any difference in range?

Second question- any experience with Extreme compatible cards in older models, such as 400mHz TiBook or earlier? Probably need PC Card versions (that go into the slot on the side). This week, CompUSA has Belkin 802.11b wireless routers for US $19.99 and PC Cards for 9.99 (after rebates), and 802.11g router for 29.99. But Belkin a couple of years ago had connectivity problems- would drop frequently. This still true? Anyone have experience with latest Belkin wireless products?

You will notice a difference with 802.11.g with a DSL modem. You would notice it less on a cable modem... (Of course this depends on providers)

As for compatible cards etc, you can see everything we offer for the Mac notebook networking at the link below:

As for routers, really any brand except Belkin is good. We prefer Linksys, but have only had problems with Belkin wireless products.
