When my iPod turn on the little apple comes and the it spins and instead of the apple it appears alike a skull instead of the apple and from there it won't do anything it stays like that what can I do to resolve that

Powerbook Medic

@Jazz - if it won't sync up to the computer, there isn't much you can do. Any music on there should still be on your computer or redownloadable from the music store.

Jazz

When I plug my iPod into the computer it lights up and shows the apple but then blacks out. It will not show up at all on my mac or PC and I've tried many restoring processes. Please do you know of there's any way possible to get my music off of the logic board? I've tried many restoring software's and still nothing. I just want the data of music.

Powerbook Medic

@John - sometimes you can solder it back, but in most situations it requires a new logic board.

John

The gold clip that works in sync with the power button was laying inside when I took it apart. "The one on the logic board". Is there a way to fix this ?

Powerbook Medic

@CRB - unfortunately the dock connector is soldered onto the logic board on this model, so you'll just need to decide if it is cost effective to repair or replace.

My son slobbered on the end of my first gen iPod. I tried drying it out, but when I plug it up, it still doesn't charge. For some reason the charging end does get warm to the touch, but it ipod will not turn on. Any suggestions? Should I just buy a new one? It was not completely submerged in slobber, it just got on the end where you charge it.

Best Ipod repair guide on the web.Hands down. Thank you for your help!

Powerbook Medic

@Ian - I would try a different USB port and cable first. After that, it is most likely the logic board.

Ian

when i switch on it stops at the itunes logo and shows a cable

Powerbook Medic

@Ray - it is best if you at least loosen the board, but we recommend taking it out.

Ray

Can the headphone jack be replaced without taking the entire unit apart or does the lower logic board have to come apart?

angie

home button not working

Powerbook Medic

@SL8 - it can be just a loose cable, so check that first. otherwise its usually the LCD or rarely the logic board.

My iPod is in disable mode and will not sync and will not go into dfu mode what can I do?

Powerbook Medic

@Dan - try to go into DFU mode and restore it from there. just google it and it should provide guides on how to get it there.

Dan

Hi I have a brand new ipod john lennon version itouch that during the first 30 seconds of the restore process shuts off the itouch, turns it on to show a bright apple, the progress bar under the apple spins for 1/2 second and then everything goes dim and the bar freezes. I tried this with multiple restore versions (on PC) Any ideas?

Powerbook Medic

@jayem - unfortunately yes.

jayem

Do I have to replace the logic board if there is fault with the power / data socket. My Ipod won't charge - if I gently push the plug towards or away from the Ipod then it shows the 'charging' or the 'plug charger in' signs but they don't stay on.

Powerbook Medic

@92 Buick - yes you can put a 16GB logic board into an 8GB. You can't however put a different generation one into an older generation. (i.e. you can't put a 2nd gen touch board into a 1st gen)

92 Buick

can you put a 16gb in a 8gb ipod? will this make it hold more? also can you put a newer logic board in an old ipod?

Powerbook Medic

@tate - that is typically going to be an issue with the wireless antenna. it may be disconnected or damaged.

tate

my ipod will not sync with wireless unless im very close to routier and i mean on top of it and even then its not getting good signal help please

Powerbook Medic

@sanjida - it should show something on the screen when you plug it up to the computer. if it doesn't show anything or sync up, it is probably a logic board issue.

sanjida

After searching for how to disassemble an IPOD TOUCH 32GB 1st generation and actually viewing a couple which showed how to open the box it came in and remove the IPOD and it's contents I was elated to find your professional site and quality video demonstration of how to disassemble the IPOD. I give you a 5 STAR rating!!!

@Ade - we sell the logic boards with the battery in case people aren't up to soldering. If you do want to just replace the battery though, it does require a soldering iron.

Ade Weiss

Best servicing video I've ever seen -- no short-cuts or "jump over" setps. BUT, it should not end yet-- at least state if the replacement of the battery requires disconnecting the old leads and soldering the new battery leads on. Thanks

I'm having a issue took off the back and then a little piece came off. Couldn't find it but now I realize it was the power button attached to the board. Now it doesn't power on an off until I plug it in. Do you have that part?

Dave

@Merl - there is a small silver button mechanism under the home button that has probably slid out of place and just needs to be adjusted and possibly secured with tape.

Powerbook Medic

@jokk - you'll need to sync it up to your computer and restore it.

jokk

my son had my A1213 and deleted everything from it, i've tried resetting it, and when the apple logo appears it freezes. is there a way to reboot files?

Powerbook Medic

@julie - you pretty much just go in reverse of the video.

Powerbook Medic

@colin - if you've tried a new LCD and the backlight still doesn't work, it'll be the logic board unfortunately. Make sure, however, you are connecting it well. You can partially connect it and the backlight may not work.

julie
