I recently purchased a 17 inch Powerbook with a cover that didnt close. After a bit research online, I have repaired the latch somewhat as to it closes now but only with one magnet black hook deploying. The spring tension seems to be tight on one magnetic hook as it wont deploy when I close the cover. I have tried blowing with compressed air, and fiddling with thin paper to maybe get some dirt/lint from the hook but its not helping...any other options out there??

It's most likely an issue with the hinges not being tightened equally. If one hinge is loose it will make the display a little crooked which will cause it to not align properly for the latch hook.
