Post subject: replacing LCD on macbook 13
PostPosted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 7:35 am
I dropped my macbook. now the display is damaged. I need to replace it. I looked at the procedure on line and it appears the entire laptop has to be gutted to get at and remove the existing LCD. Is that true?

Is there a way to replace the LCD without having to take the entire computer apart and if so, what is it?

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

I must difer to the experts here however I did just replace mine and I cannot see any way around this. The procedure just takes time. An icecube tray and stickies to lable your screws will go a long way.

Good luck

If you have small fingers its possible. The trick is reconnecting the inverter cable from the LCD back to the inverter board in the middle under the clutch cover. You can unscrew it and bend it enough to reconnect the cable. It takes some practice, but it is definitely possible.

As far as we've seen the lid's are only available as complete displays through Apple which are very expensive. You can click on Request a Part at the bottom of our site to get a price on one.

Ok, I had send the request, thanks.
But: can I replace my display without this complete part, on my unibody
MacBook, by ordering only the display (http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/product.php?productid=16961) from you? :?:
Maybe I can straighten the lid myself... :)

We aren't sure what LCDs the new unibodys use yet. They are very hard to get into and I'm not sure anyone has actually been successful yet.

the dots on the end of the cable should be facing away from the keyboard towards the back/bottom.

Hi,

my son dropped his macbook last week and the LCD is broken and not displaying anymore. I checked youtube on how to replace the LCD but I'm not really sure if I can totally follow the guide. :( Does anyone have an idea how much it would spend if I will do it myself and if I will let it repaired?

Thanks.

If you do it the shortcut way without taking apart the entire macbook, you can do it in less than 30 minutes.

I broke the screen on my Macbook and took it to the genius bar and they quoted me $755.oo to repair. as a tier 4 accidental damage. So maybe that gives you an idea of repair cost.
