cracked display on macbook pro, computer ran normally but display had jagged bright crack lines. i just carefully replaced the display (including taking old display out of lid bezel), put everything together, and on boot saw small white flash in lower right corner of screen and then boot chime happens over and over again, endlessly. immediately unplugged computer, but cannot figure out what the issue might be. connections appear fine but i'm hoping not to spend hours undoing and redoing everything. any ideas what to look for?

I would try resetting the PRAM first. Best way is to take out the battery, leave the machine unplugged, and hold down the power button for 10 seconds, then plug it back in with the battery still out and see if it turns on.
If that doesn't fix it, I would go in and reseat the RAM chips and try again.
If that doesn't fix it, the only thing left to do is go into the display again, and try the old LCD again and see if it works or does the same thing.

i put back in the cracked display and everything works. i put back in the new display and same problem, brief flash of light in lower right and brief faint high pitched squelching noise, the chimes over and over trying to boot. the model #s are almost identical LP171WE2 rev TL A1/A2 on original display, LP171WE2 rev TL A3 on new display. the only conclusion: i was sold a faulty display. returning it to you now. very, very disappointing.
