I just bought an "Apple SuperDrive DVD Burner Drive 8x - Macbook Pro", for my macbook 13", late 2006. I replaced it myself and everything is all right, except that the optical drive doesn't write DL DVD. When I check the infos, I can read :

MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857 :

Interconnexion : ATAPI
Gestion de la gravure : Oui (lecteur livré par Apple)
Cache : 2048 Ko
Lecture de DVD : Oui

When I bought the drive, I thought it was a "Dual layer driver", as it was written on the product's description. Did I buy the wrong drive ? Or maybe I need a firmware update ? Can you help me ?

The UJ-857 should be a dual layer drive. Have you tried a dual layer disk and it just doesn't read it? If so, what burning software are you using?

I tried to burn a Philips DL DVD+R with Popcorn, but I couldn't. Tomorrow I'll try with another DL DVD, as the PbM Support wrote me that this driver may have problems with some DL DVD. The strange thing is that the drive doesn't show up as DL in the System profile. I let you know. Thank you very much for the answer.

so I tried to burn another DL DVD, Verbatim, but it stil doesn't work. I can burn CD, "normal" DVD, and the drive reads DL DVD, but when it comes to burn DL, I have an error message. It is clear to me that the drive I've bought is not able to burn DL DVD, but I don't know if it is a software or an hardware problem.
Any idea ?
