Post subject: Ti Powerbook 667 DVI - no boot from new Combo drive Posted: Tue Dec 04, 2007 8:18 am |

Just replace the Combo drive in my Ti PowerBook 667 DVI. It reads CDs and DVDs great, it burns CDs great. But when I try to boot from the drive (holding down C on restart or <option>) it reverts to the hard disk for booting. I tried resetting PRAM, no help. It won't boot either OSX install CDs or Linux install DVDs.
I did notice that when I boot using <option>, the CD boot disk shows up as an option, however, when I select it and go... I'm immediately returned to my selections again, only now, the icons are displayed funny (pixilated/smeared/wrong).
Maybe my boot loader doesn't recognized the drive?
Any help out there?
Thanks,

Just to test, try booting off your hard drive, go into system preferences with the install cd in the drive. In system preferences, there is a Startup Disk option. Try that and select the cd and restart.

I tried this and was successful in booting from OSX install disks, but not the Linux install disks that were previously successful boot disks on the older drive.
Still unable to boot ANY CD from hot key "C" or <option> (boot loader) upon boot.
Could the drive control board be at fault here?

probably. I would definitely try another hard drive before a new logic board.
