You'll need an external enclosure which you can purchase from most computer stores and we sell one for $28.95. Then you'll need cloning software. We recommend Carbon Copy Cloner.
You just install the new drive into the machine, the old one into the enclosure, boot off the enclosure and run the cloning software to copy the old drive onto the new one.

Is there an advantage to Carbon Copy Cloner over Clonezilla when using on Mac? I also need to copy or clone an HDD for Mac and I'm not having much luck.

last I recall, clonezilla is a bootable program and isn't run from inside the operating system. Carbon Copy Cloner is a OS X app that you can clone between two drives while booted up on one computer, so it really depends if you are going to try a clone directly between two computers or if you are going to use a 3rd working machine to just copy between two drives.
