How easy is hinge replacement?

So I have a broken left hinge, and am considering buying the hinge kit plus instructions etc. What I want to know is how easy is the procedure, the fact that epoxy and a clamp are required makes me wonder what I have to do to get the thing open in the first place!?

hmm.. ok no replies so far, I'll rephrase the question. Have people been happy with the hinge kit? and the resultant repair they were able to carry out? Has anyone tried the repair and ended up binning their powerbook?

sorry for the slow reply.. been out of town. hinge replacement isn't a task for a novice... but if you get the take-apart guide with it, it tells you exactly what to do with the kit.

i would recommend the kit if its your first hinge replacement.

Hi so does it mean that if I have not performed any repairs on my own before, but if i get the hinge replacement with the hinge replacement instructions, i would be able to do it?

Am thinking of getting the full set and doing it myself.

The take-apart manual does cover hinge replacement, but it isn't a simple procedure. With the guide you can probably do it, but most of the problems that arise would be cosmetic damage such as scratches on the casing etc. If this doesn't scare you, then go ahead and give it a shot, but again.. no guarantees. It is possible to kill your LCD during the replacement and that is no cheap fix.
