 Post subject: Boot Problem

I received an old lombard that was missing HD and CD Drive, although it does have a VST drive. I was told it sounded the start up chimes(it does), and that's all( that's true). I have a HD installed w/OS X and installed it into the Lombard. A start up chime is still all I get. Any words of wisdom or pieces of advice would be greatly appreciated.
