Several months ago I got the dreaded question mark and had to take my computer in....we recovered all the data and they re-installed the software back to 9.1 but my DVD-ROM has not accepted a CD since then...
any ideas on how to fix this?

It could just be a coincidence...normally if your drive doesn't accept cds it is a drive problem...there is a chance your software cd/dvd extension isn't loaded as well...but that's less likely if they did a clean install of OS9.

Bradley,
Could you please tell me the exact name of the extension of what's supposed to be there...and if there is any other software that is supposed to be there?
Using my apple system profiler I see the following:
finder: 9.1.1
system 9.1 US
active enabler: Mac OS ROM 7.5.1
Is this what it should be?
I was wondering if the 9.1 software for a titanium powerbook would be slightly different from the 9.1 on other machines?....to run the DVD-ROM?

It would be something like Apple CD/DVD Extension...i haven't been in OS9 for a while, so I can't think of the exact name. The odds are your drive is dead though. It is extremely common.
