Cardbus in Titanium 550

Titanium 550 768Gb Tiger 10.4.9

Just bought a

BestConnectivity USB 2.0 / Firewire PC Card

to be used in the cardbus slot.

This card is specifically stated to be Mac Compatible although no models or OSs are mentioned

I installed the driver that came with, which specified "OS 10.3 and later"

•• When I insert the card into the slot, the computer "freezes" (ie: the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive)

•• When I remove the card, the computer returns to normal.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you tried shutting down the system, inserting the card, and then powering it up with the card already installed?
