Today I left my iBook (366 firewire) compiling software, and when I returned the OS had crashed.
I rebooted it using the standard Ctrl+Command+Power. It then refused to boot, to my great dismay. It still does, and there is not even any startup sound from the speaker. I tried resetting the PRAM, tried the reset button, tried making it boot from CD, tried unplugging everything, taking out the extra RAM I put in it, but still the same thing: nothing happens.
All that happens is that the hard drive and the cd spin up, but nothing appears to be read from either, and the screen stays black. I am absolutely clueless as to what this might be.

I did spill coffee in it about a month ago, but it worked fine the day after, and worked fine until today. I don't think coffee would still be liquid and moving around in it.

Any ideas as to what it might be or how it could be fixed would be greatly appreciated!
Johan

Hi,

I have the same problem w/ a 300Mhz iBook. It doesn't boot any more, black screen, no chime, HD and CD spin, but no data is read. PRAM and Power Manager reset won't help. The iBook definitely has no backup battery, but afaik a capacitor instead that might be broken. I wonder if the ROM could be broken? I don't think it could be the internal RAM, because in case of faulty RAM the machine beeps one, two or three times.

Could you fix your iBook? If so, what did you do? If not, what do you plan to do?

cheers,
Christian
