My ibook clamshell doesn't seem to be getting any power from the yo-yo AC power cord. I'm wondering if these power cords sometimes wear out or break down. The battery is dead and I have no way to power up the machine. What can I do?

I have seen the yo-yo power supplies on other sites for sale and on ebay, cost is almost the same either way.
The battery is also available on ebay and some sites still list them as available.
