 Post subject: external cd drive

I have a graphite ibook. The one released after the originals with the only difference I know of is the bump in processer speed. My cd drive doesn't work. I have an iomega external CDRW drive that works fine when I put a disc in. My question is can I use this drive to boot a system restore disc? I love this computer and don't want to get rid of it but I don't want to sink a bunch of money into it.
