Post subject: iBook Battery Not Charging
PostPosted: Tue Oct 07, 2003 9:23 pm
I recently purchased a new battery for a clamshell iBook. The battery will not charge (ring around power adapter stays green). The iBook works fine when plugged in. Will not charge battery if system is off, extensions are off, booted from system CD or booted normally. Returned and replaced the new battery -- same problem. What's wrong? How do I fix it?

If you are positive the batteries you are getting are new, then it is highly possible you need a new battery charger / clicker board available form our online store at the link below

Post subject: Doesn't charge while in use
PostPosted: Sun Nov 21, 2004 1:32 am
As for me, I'm having a hard time charging my clamshell iBook. It never charges while in use. It charges while sleeping or shut down, but not very well. I have a new battery that I bought from PowerbookMedic.com and I just replaced the AC-in board.

I just replaced the charger/clicker board. My brand new battery won't charge above 1%. I left it plugged in, turned off with the amber light glowing. Any ideas? It used to charge only while sleeping or turned off. Now it hardly charges at all. Charger/clicker board and battery were both from powerbookmedic.com.

I tested out my new battery on another iBook - it charges fine. I also tried a known good battery on my iBook - it does not charge.

The power light glows green while the OS X battery shows charging. When the iBook is sleeping or powered down, the power light glows amber.

It seems that the problem is that the battery charges very very slowly. I did get my new battery to charge up to 2%.

Is it possible that the replacement charger/clicker board was defective? Can I (should I?) return it and try my luck on another one?

Well my ibook clamshell is facing a similar problem. It started by the charging getting stopped and if one wiggles the cable close it the lead it would show some signs of current going in. I stripped the lead thinking there was a short and reconnected the wires securely. For few days the charger showed a strange behaviour: it would only charge (turn amber) when asleep or switched-off. Otherwise, the mac worked fine. Then suddenly, one day the mac wouldn't start if charger is plugged into the machine. If the starter switch is pressed it woul result in all caps lock, num lock and sleep LEDs blinking intermittantly. Can someone tell what the problem may be?

From the messages here, it looks like there's some flaw in the ibook clamshell. We're all having problems. We don't know whether to buy a new battery, a new battery charger, or replace an internal part.

I'm in the same boat. My ibook clamshell had a good battery that lost all it's charge while asleep for a long time, unplugged. Now it is useless, and the ibook needs AC in order to run at all. The battery never charges even a fraction of a percent.

Anyone have any definitive idea what the prob is? Someone must know, since it seems such a common problem. Thanks.
