I am pretty new at gutting and reassembling the clamshells, so I have googled and downloaded as many repair & upgrade guides as I can. Yesterday, I found an obscure thread from 2004 that lead me here:

(sorry, haven't been able to find out how to make this a direct link yet!)
and a full teardown manual for the ibook (Firewire). Opens up with stuffit expander into a folder "Default Name". Excellent, so i thought I'd pass it along to any other relative newbies out there that might be looking for a bit more detail.
