iBook Lid Latch

The lid latch on my iBook broke a couple of weeks ago and the lid won’t stay shut. The problem is the machine keeps "waking up," in transit/storage and draining the battery. The Apple Store quoted us $300.00 to replace the latch, but I'm checking to see if you know where I can find the part and if it’s a do it yourself fix. Thanks!!

Did you ever get the latch fixed on your Apple laptop?

If the actual hook is broke it requires replacing the front bezel which is $19.95. If it is the actual latch mechanism that is $49.95.

replacing the front bezel isn't much fun as it requires a complete disassembly. The latch isn't too bad.

Hi - thanks for replying.

Nothing is actually broken as such, the mechanism just wont return by itself.

Can you provide any diagrams or instructions please?

I am confident I can fix this myself but dont want to strip the whole machine if not necessary.
