Post subject: Installing a combo drive on an ibook 500mhz
PostPosted: Wed Oct 01, 2003 11:55 am
Hello,

Will I have a problem installing a combo drive on an iBook with 500 mhz. I just noticed that Apple iBooks that are sold by Apple have 600mhz or higher.

Also, I want to upgrage memory from 128 to 256 or 512. Would 256 be enough to handle a combo drive or would I need to upgrade to 512?

Can my iBook, which uses pc-100, can use pc-133?

Thanks for any input...

victor

For iBooks with 600mhz, I meant that iBooks being sold with combo drives have 600mhz.

Victor,

You can upgrade your unit to the combo drive. It works in all white iBooks. Ram has no real effect on the CDRW. It will help your applications , and increase buffer etc..... but it depends on what you'll be doing. I'd reccomend upgrading to 512mb just because it will make your unit run faster.

Thanks for the response.

I will mainly surf the internet, emails, and play dvd's.

Do you know if the pc-133 memory will work fine on the iBook, which is pc-100. I've always thought if you put a pc-133 to a machine that only does pc-100 memory, memory will be ok, but work at pc-100...

Thanks,

Victor

Only use the PC100 memory. The iBook may not recognize it otherwise.
