 Post subject: I book tries to start up

All of a sudden my I book G3 when powered up, goes through the normal white screen with the apple icon in the background, chime the "power on" sound, and shows the spinning "thinking" icon but nothing else. It will stay that way for hours, just "thinking". Any suggustions??

That usually means there is something wrong with the operating system or the hard drive. It is best to boot up from your install cd and scan the hard drive for errors using Disk Utility.
