random lines on Start up screen

I am working on a 700mhz powerbook right now, and I'm not sure if its worth a repair.

The first time I started it up it booted to the apple logo screen then started to flicker 1px lines from both sides of the screen, and the loading icon stopped moving.

Now I get the startup noise but nothing displays on the screen

I've since replicated the first error 2 times

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Does it occur on an external monitor as well? Likely it has a logic board failure. This was extremely common in these models.

testing it on an external tomorrow, didn't have the converter.

I did take apart a 600mhz G3 with a bad inverter cable and switch the display and it didn't do anything different.

Yeah I was hoping to find something besides the logic board to be a possibility
if it is, i guess I know where I got my inverter cable.

It sounds exactly like the logic board has failed -- same symptoms that mine had.

However, the logic board extension repair program seemed to have ended on July 17.

I had this problem and squeaked my repair in just in the nick of time. You could try arguing it to see if they'll cover you. For me, there was no cost.

Lines on the screen followed by no video / backlight on the screen are dead give aways of the infamous logic board problem.
