combo drive won't close

So, I push the eject/F12 key to open the drive, I pop in a CD, and it won't close, it just bounces back out, and there's a 3 second tone.

That was yesterday. Now I've been able to shut it by pressing all along the edge with my finger, but pushing the eject key does nothing. Moving the iBook a little or touching the drive door again makes it pop out.

Is the closing/ejecting mechanism totaled?

The eject mechanism failing is a common problem, and requires a drive replacement. I'd reccomend replacing it with a combo drive. This drive is available at the link below:
