I have a 600mhz G3 white iBook which is having battery issues. The
battery icon (I am running 10.3.9) cycles between a lightning bolt and a
power plug, and never fully charges. I reset the PMU, booted into open
firmware, reset the NVRAM, tried it with a friend's powerbook charger, and
nothing seems to work. I got apple to send me a new battery because the
one in the machine was purchased from the apple store and was less than a
year old. Well, the new battery did not even show a blinking light when I
got it, I am not sure if this is normal or not. Two minutes later, my
monitor started flickering and went dead. A PMU reset fixed this and I
put my old battery back in (at least it didn't FRY my machine). I have
read that these machines may have logic board problems, but it worked
great for the first 2 yrs. I finally wiped my drive and reinstalled
Panther, but to no avail. Apple is sending me yet another battery (after
a long phone battle). If this one does not work right, it must be the
machine, I figure.
