My Wall Street G3 PC card with Firewire adapter worked fine when I used it to back up to an external drive, preparing to switch to a larger HD. I replaced the internal drive, reinstalled OS9.1, then tried to access the ext HD via the PC card. It does not work; I get an icon that looks like a broken circuitboard. This is true in either upper or lower slot. I tried it in another computer and it works fine. Does this mean I should replace the cage? Does it perhaps mean that I should plug in an AC adapter to the card because the drain on the power may have damaged the connection in the cage?? (so this may happen again?).
As an alternative solution, I was given a Pismo G3 (trashed HD & battery will not charge), and I note it has USB and Firewire connectors. Could I swap the logic board of the Wall St for that of the Pismo and eliminate the need for the PC card? Or is in totally incompatible?
The Pismo and the wallstreet are completely incompatible. You most likely should replace the PC Card cage. This part is available from our online store at the link below:
