I have a powerbook Lombard (bronze keyboard). On it I have OS9 and X, and they both work perfectly well and I have no problems using it at hoime. However, It will only work when using the mains adaptor. When I plug the battery in it recognises it, the charge icon comes on for a split second, the charge icon dissapears and the battery remains dead. I am just trying to find out where the fault lies as I have no back up battery to check the system with. As far as the battery goes, when the charger is on I can press the battery button and the first groeen light will come on, blink a few times and then go off, so current is gointg throught the battery. I have reset the firmware (reset-all), and done all thet pram reset stuff and there are no results. One thing I have noticed is that It cannot retain the date and time. Questions 1. If I replace the internal pram battery , will it help the system charge the main battery? 2. Could it be the logic board? In fact, where is the logic board? 3. Could it be the power management unit? Where is the power management unit? Any other suggestions? Many thanks Oliver |

you can check the battery info in Mac OS X using some progrems out there, or open the terminal and paste this command in: ioreg -p IODeviceTree -n "battery" -w 0 | grep Flags My, pretty good battery returns: IOBatteryInfo" = ({"Voltage"=0,"Flags"=1,"Amperage"=0,"Capacity"=0,"Current"=0},{"Voltage"=12303,"Flags"=5,"Amperage"=1200,"Capacity"=2738,"Current"=2738}) if the capacity is really low, you can try the apple battery calibration: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86284 or it might be time to get a new battery |

Guest Lombardo, you seem to know UNIX. Isn't there a UNIX command that Sausage and I and other people with similar problems could paste into the OS X Terminal application to RESET the flags in the battery processor that are preventing the Lombard from recognizing (or accepting) it? I would REALLY appreciate a reply on this issue. erich@itla.ch |

The problem will either be your battery or your Power / Charger board. Usually the problem is the battery itself, and the only way to fix the issue is to replace the battery. -Bradley PowerbookMedic |
