 Post subject: Excessive Freezes/System Crashes
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2003 3:07 pm
I have a Lombard 400 that freezes without warning. It does not seem to be application-specific. However, programs that use lots of memory (Photoshop, Internet Explorer, etc.) seem to bring it on.

Sometimes I can go for several hours without a crash... other times it happens repeatedly. Alos, and maybe as a result of all the crashing, my Finder often quits.

I've re-formatted the hard drive and re-loaded system software (OS 9.2.2) to no avail. My reading on the net indicates it may be a faulty daughtercard.

If so, can I replace the daughtercard using the one pulled from an old, but working 333 mhz Lombard?

Any ideas?

Go download a program called PPC Checker. (Do a search on google and you'll find it.) It is an OS9 program. Run the program, and determine what revision processor you have. I'm guessing it will be a Lonestar 2.1. These are common issues with that revision. It is also a sign that your backside cache has failed. A 333mhz chip will work in your 400mhz machine.
