 Post subject: CD-Rom not spinning

my lombard (333) powerbook's CD-Rom no longer seems to spin the CDs. when i insert a CD, i can hear is start up, but then it seems to spin back down. is this a common problem? and why are the pismo CD-Roms so much harder to find than the wallstreet for replacement?
