Post subject: lombard jaguar difficulties Posted: Sat Oct 11, 2003 8:25 pm |

Im having a tough time getting my lombard to work well on 10.2.
400mhz / 384ram / 10gig hd
seems like weird things keep going wrong and its so annoying i always go back to 9.1. It works great in 9. BUT... we just realized that we have to run osx to connect to DSL...so its another dilemma. My question is, do the ibooks, snow run well on jaguar, or panther? Would we have the same problem? Maybe i should just leave the lombard in 9, and get the ibook for our internet...any suggestions would be appreciated.

Juliett,
Virtually every internet service is compatible with OS9 (including DSL) I'd try to get is working on OS9 before you try anything else because there is a 99% likelihood you can get it to work. Jaguar runs very well on the white iBooks if you decide to upgrade though.

I am running 10.3.2 on a Lombard pretty much like yours with no problems except that I can't print from Classic mode. I am very happy. M y PB is MUCH more stable that it was under 9.2

The problem is almost certainly your RAM.
Try another stick if you have one (Your 256MB stick is the likely culprit, I'm afraid), if not, I'd advise getting another one from a Mac dealer.
If money is tight, get a 128. They're cheap and more reliable as a rule.

Order your RAM from TransIntl. I have a 333mhz Lombard, with a 256 in the lower slot and a 128 in the upper, running 10.2.8 with very little hassle. In fact it's a lot zippier than it used to be...and I run memory-hog apps like Photoshop and Cinema 4D.
