Macbook4.1 white 13"+ screen. The usual screen going black when you move it and I can always get it going by wiggling open & closed. I took it apart & wiggled everything while on. It is not the inverter cable or screen ribbon cable. I think it is what appears to be screen frame grounding cables on the left side, one white & one black that connect to the same buss and have foil wrapped around them where they cross the hinge. They are bare under the foil but not really connected except by the foil wrap. Can anybody tell me what the point of this is? Seems a bit cheesy. Should I solder the wires together?

You can solder or just splice them back together and then wrap them up with electrical or kapton tape.

Thanks Justin, but do you agree that this could be causing the problem? Everywhere I looked, I never found this listed as a possible cause of the screen going black. What is always suggested is ribbon cables, inverter, inverter cable and screen failure. The problem seems to be very common and people are always saying that after they spent a bunch of money the problem was still there. If this is what is causing these problems, maybe the world needs to be told.

I am not computer wizard, far from it. I am a mechanical type of engineer who doesn't give up easily. And, up to the point I had this problem, I loved my Mac. Now I worry.

the white and black cables coming from the LCD are for the backlight. so if those are damaged, it'd be the same as if the inverter cable was cut.

Frustration.... The wires were not damaged and I did not say they were damaged. When taking the foil wrap off you find that they are bare for a short segment and it appears that the foil may be intended to connect them together and even possibly ground them in turn to the hinge. I hate to beat a dead horse, but it appears to me that this is probably the cause of many people's screen problems. This is a very cheesy looking thing for something like a MacBook.

All I have done is twist the wires so they made contact and wrapped them with tape. My problem went away. People need to be told that their problem may be caused by something that takes no money to fix.
