macbook a1181 white screen turns to gray screen w/vertical

Late 2006 macbook has white screen turning to gray screen with vertical lines after boot. Has image on external monitor. LVDS cable was replaced with a used one from
powerbook medic. Still has the same issue. Anyone have any thoughts or repair suggestions? Thanks

Vertical lines is typically the display cable or the logic board. While it working fine on an external monitor helps rule out the GPU, there still could be damage to the logic board on the output from the logic board to the screen.

You may want to try a new LCD first, but it most likely will be the logic board at this point.

Thanks for the reply. It has displayed a faint distorted image recently. Is there a way to test the logic board.

There's not a good way, no. I'd probably try an LCD first.. or you may want to take it somewhere or send it to us for a free diagnosis.
