Powerbookmedic, good afternoon I want to have my old PowerBook respond better. As of now it's all stock. If I upgrade the ram and go to an 80 gig solid state hard drive will it appear to be faster? And what OS can I upgrade to on this thing?

it really depends what specific model A1181 it is. If you go to the parts by serial page at the top of our site and put in your serial number, it'll tell you what the max RAM is for your machine.

RAM will always help the speed.. especially on the newer operating systems. SSD will marginally help. Writing and reading will to the drive will be a little faster, so it will speed up opening applications and saving data a little.

The A1181s are at the end of their life, so Apple is no longer supporting them in the newer operating systems. Snow leopard may be the highest OS you can get.
