Good Morning Folks and Happy Thanksgiving.

My daughter dropped her macbook at college and it landed vertically right on the
corner where the hard drive is located. In doing so... it slightly buldged the aluminum in the corner of the main body and the lid.
The bulge then caused the glass over the LCD screen to crack in the corner.. as well as several places across the screen.

She was able to fire the computer up and everything works great!!!! No damage
to the LCD screen... thanks goodness...nor the hard drive.

So.... I found this website and ordered just the glass replacement and the suction cup device that they used in the instructional video on this website.

I waited for my daughter to come home from college for Thanksgiving to bring
the Macbook home... and started working on it this morning.

Everything went like clockwork as shown on the instructional video... except for the use of the suction cup device. Seem's it doesn't work to well when there
are cracks in the class. But I figured that I might run into that problem. So I use 3" wide clear tape and placed tape all over the screen to hold it together as I was trying to remove the class. That didn't work because the suction cup device wouldn't provide a good seal to the glass/tape and it would leak air and not hold.

So... I used the heat gun and warmed up the edges in small sections... then I took a small xacto knife and slowly began to pry the edge of the glass away from the adhesive. I slowly worked my way all around the screen... heating and prying until I was able to get all the old broken glass off.

Warning... if you do this... and your LCD still works... be VERY careful to stay away from scratching the LCD screen!!!

I cleaned all the way around the frame.... then applied the New Glass to the frame. Worked like a champ!!!! Thanks to this website!!!

A couple of things to note.... I did not remove the screen from the laptop. I left it attached.... because it wasn't going to interfere with the replacement
of the glass.

Also.... be VERY VERY CAREFUL when you heat up the area around the iSight
Camera at the top of the frame. I heated a little to long and melted some
black stuff around the connectors. Thankfully it did not affect the use of the
camera.

So.... Thanks so much to PowerbookMedic for the parts and the instructions on how to do all of this. Total cost for me.... about $80.00 as compared to $815.00 that Apple wanted to do the work.
