I purchased a new superdrive and installed it in my 13.3 inch macbook without any trouble. Now when I start the computer the drive makes noise as if it is checking for a disc. As I recall with the combo drive that I had in before it only made this noise when it was waking up from sleep not when it was being turned on after being off. Is there a firmware update that I need to install or is this normal.

It is normal. It checks for disks on startup.
