Just received my new drive today (SKU4462) and installed without a problem. Turned the mac on, it boots and runs fine. I put a cd in the new drive, the drive sucked it in, but the disk won't mount. It also won't eject.
Looking in the System Profiler, there is no listing for the drive in the ATA category or under disc burners.
The drive I replaced was a Hitachi DVD Writable/CD-RW Drive, Model: GWA-4080MA
Not sure where to go from here. Any help would be appreciated.

It could be a defective drive or an issue with the cable not being connected all the way. If your old drive still partially worked, you can stick that back in and see if it reads discs properly. If it does, try the new drive one more time and if it still fails, speak to our customer support department to setup an RMA.

I am having the same problem. Put SKU4462 Apple SuperDrive DVD Burner Drive 8x into my daughter's MBP last night. No problems--followed video and it went smoothly. It doesn't show up at all as being connected to the computer.
