Post subject:  Replacing left fan in MacBoc Pro 17"

Hi!

I ordered a left fan for my MacBook Pro 17" (A1229) and then looked at the instruction videos for the fairly similar MacBook Pro 17" A1212. The instruction videos show how to replace (or remove) the complete heatsink assembly with the fans. Now I only want to replace the left fan, not remove the heatsink etc.

Do I still need to remove almost everything inside the mac, including logic board, speakers, harddrive etc etc, or is it possible to remove/replace the fan with the logic board still in place? Some parts on the left side obviously need to be removed to be able to access the leftmost screw, but do I really need to free up the whole heatsik to be able to pry out the fan? The risks involved increase dramatically the more parts I need to remove and I would like to minimize those risks :)

Anyone who knows?

Cheers,
/Patrik

Ok, I now know (as I've replaced the fan). To replace the left fan, the airport card and the left speaker need to be removed, no more. A guide on iFixit proved useful. My MacBook Pro is now silent again :)
