My 14" iBook G4 works perfectly except for the display flashes black when the hinge is moved. It has gotten worse over the last few months. Can you tell me if a new "inverter board" would fix it? Do I need to provide more info to diagnose this?

It would be the inverter cable. The cable goes up through the hinges, and it is extremely frequent that the cable starts getting pinched by the hinges and at certain angles will cut power to the backlight.
