If the backlight works at some angles but not at others, it is usually going to be the inverter cable is damaged and getting pinched in the hinge area.

I have the same/similar problem with a 17" Powerbook. My Powerbook spends 90% of its time sitting in front of my desktop PC monitor. When the screen/display is open fully (90ยบ), I have a reliable, steady display with no flicker. However, if I begin to close it, it will either flicker or go completely black. Sometimes slowly tilting it back open will restore the screen, sometimes I have to close it and open it up again after a couple of seconds. This appears to be a connection issue in the hinge area, since it's movement related. Justin, you point to the inverter cable, which would make sense in my situation. Do I follow the display removal procedure to replace this, or do I not have to go quite as far. Do you guys sell this cable for the Alum. 17" PB? Thanks, J.P.
