Post subject: optical drive not recognized
PostPosted: Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:36 am
I just replaced the disc drive in my G4 aluminum. I inserted a disc, it went right in, but is not being recognized on the computer anywhere, and I can't get it to eject. I can hear it working when I start up, but nothing happens after that. Before taking it apart again, is there some way to try and get the computer to recognize the new drive. I see there was a couple of similar posts a couple of months ago, but no one responded.

You can go into open firmware by holding down Apple-Option-o-f on bootup. When at the prompt you can type in "eject cd" without the quotes. If it gives you an error, the drive is not being found and you probably have a loose or damaged cable inside.
