Post subject: Powerbook with AC issues Posted: Sun Nov 25, 2007 9:23 pm |

Trying to keep a 15" Powerbook off the scrapheap. Won't take an AC charge, or charge the battery. When I plug in the AC, the status light on my adaptor goes out. With top lid off the the PB, and if I plug the AC into the jack, I can hear a little pop at the jack like it's shorting.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I took it apart and pulled the Logic Board. On more than one place on the underside I see some gray ash on some of the components. Suggests to me that the Logic Board may be the culprit. Just for grins with all the components disconnected, I inserted the AC into the receptor and now the AC green light stays light. Not a scientific test but tells me that maybe it's not shorting after all.

you are probably right. That'll be pretty pricey to repair if it is indeed the logic board though.
