I have a Powerbook g4 Aluminum 1ghz 12in, and I recently put in a new slotloading combo drive, when I put my comptuer back together and powered it up, the screen would not come on. If I shine a light through the back side (through the apple) I can see the images on the LCD screen, it's as if the blacklight went out, and not the whole LCD screen.
Could I have disconnected something when replacing the combo drive?
Is there a way I could just replace the Blacklight (assuming that's the problem) and not the whole LCD screen?
Could this be the Logic Board?
What are my options to get it repaired? And how much is it?
Thanks,
JIM

Thanks for the post atsysusa. There are several reasons why a screen can go black but you can still make out the images. The most common reasons on the 12" are either the inverter board (also the inverter cable on the 12") (available at the link below)

or it typcially tends to be the LCD on the 12" model available at the link below:

On the 15" model, most of the time, the cause is the inverter board as it is a common failure on the 15" models. This part is available from the link below:

If the Inverter doesn't fix the issue, most likely the problem is the LCD. The LCD for the 15" model is available from the link below:

On the 17" models, it is really 50/50 as to whether it is the LCD or the inverter board. The inverter board for the 17" is available from the link below:

The LCD for the 17" is available from the link below:
