I have an Ipod classic gen6 80gb model in which the drive failed (constant clicking). I wanted to convert it to a 160gb drive as I could purchase it for less than a new 80gb replacement. I purchased a new 160gb drive and the correct cable for 160gb drive (as interface is different). Since the 80gb and the 160gb models use the same control board, and the firmware is ver 1.1.2, I expected the hard drive to spin-up and then I would go thru all the restore and reseting operations, but the hard drive never powers on. Does anyone have any experience with doing this conversion. Are there any steps i need to do to pre-configure the board to work with the 160gb drive. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, STS97

I have a dead ipod classic as well due to hard drive problem and I thought about this option before I bought a new Ipod and Iphone. Your post has been more than a month and got no reply. Probably they don't support this kind of modifications.
