ok, i purchased a new screen and complete outer casing for my video iPod. when i reassembled everything the ipod didnt work. is there a certain way the ribbon cables are supposed to be fit..

Most of the connections have a tan or black locking bar. This needs to be flipped up vertically if it is not already, the cable slid in as far as it can go, and the bar flipped back down to lock the cable in place. This should give a solid connection.
