Post subject: Is 600 MHz a hard limit for iSight/iChat?
PostPosted: Mon Dec 29, 2003 6:09 pm
I've got a Pizmo (gift) with 500 MHz G3. My newly purchased iSight camera turns on (green light) - microphone works, but video is not supported under iChat.

Not too surprising, given that the spec calls for minimum 600 MHz G3 or minimum 350 MHz G4. :?

I'm totally new to Mac - anyone got any ideas how I might proceed?

Any workarounds that will get the iSight working with my 500 MHz G3?

Upgrade the Pizmo to G4? Go for the BlueChip G3 900 MHz? Find an old G4 Mac on eBay?

I'd like to minimize my spend - this machine is going to be used exclusively for iChatAV.

Many thanks, jfc.

Just purchase shareware iChatUSB from ecamm.com, it will enable the iSight (or any webcam) to work in iChat with any speed G3. It worked fine for me with Pismo at original 400mz and with 900mz upgrade.

Bruce,

Thank you for your great (and inexpensive) solution!
The camera is working just fine now.

This is what the Internet is all about - sharing knowledge and finding good solutions.

Best wishes, and a Happy New Year.
